    The 54th Trade Day Celebration

    - 680 men of merit and 1,153 exporters received awards and Export Towers -


    The ceremony of the ‘54th Trade Day’ was held at COEX, Samseong-dong, on December 5, Tuesday, at 10:00 am. The event was attended by about 2,000 officials from the trade industry, government and trade related organizations including the Minister Baek Woon-kyu of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and Chairman Kim Young-joo of the Korea International Trade Association.  


    The event is hosted by the Korea International Trade Association and sponsored by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy. It was a meaningful opportunity to encourage traders who have been striving to increase exports while Korea’s exports are expected to reach the highest in history recording the highest growth rate in six years since 2011.


    In this ceremony, 10 men of merit, including Jeon Hee-hyung, CEO of URG Inc., Kim Kyoung Bae, CEO of KORLOY (Winners of Gold Tower Industrial Medal), Ha Jung-soo, CEO of SAE-A International, Park Soo-joon, President of YUNGJIN Pharmaceutical (Winners of Silver Tower), and Jung Dae-teak, CEO of PNE Solution (Winner of Bronze Tower) received awards on behalf of 680 men of merit.  


    On the other hand, 10 CEOs of the companies, including POSCO (the $10 billion Export Tower), JASTECH Ltd. ($500 million Export Tower), ANI Co., Ltd. ($200 Export Tower), Samyang Food ($1billion Export Tower) and Daeho Technology Korea ($70 million Export Tower) received awards on behalf of 1,153 Export Tower winners.


    Kim Young-joo, chairman of the Korea International Trade Association said in his opening speech, "We need to pay attention to the new trends that the era of the fourth industrial revolution is coming to a reality, and the structures of industry and the trade are rapidly reshaping." He also stressed "We need to create more quality jobs by creating added value through exports and investing in generating cash in the immediate future."


    Since November 30 in 1964, the first time for Korea’s exports to reach $100 million, was established as Trade Day, the Trade Day was celebrated on November 30 every year (the first event was held on December 5). In commemoration of the date to achieve 1 trillion dollars of trade in 2011 as the 9th in the world, the Trade Day has been celebrated on 5 December since 2012.
