    US Strategy on North Korea and Korea-US FTA

     

    -KITA and the National Assembly jointly held Korea Peninsula Strategy Seminar -

     

    The Korea International Trade Association (Chairman, Kim Young-joo), the National Assembly, the Korea-US Institute at Johns Hopkins University, the Korea Institute for International Economic Policy, and the Korea Foundation jointly held the Seminar on the United States’ Strategy on Korean Peninsula at the National Assembly Hall on December 18, Monday. This seminar, attended by more than 80 people including representatives from the National Assembly and the officials from the American trading companies, was designed to understand the United States’ strategy on the Korean peninsula, which is the key to Korean foreign policy, including the North Koreas nuclear issue as well as the Korea-US FTA revision negotiation.

     

    Robert Gallucci, the chairman of the Korea-US Institute at Johns Hopkins University, who was the chief US representative at the time of the North Korean nuclear crisis in 1994, Jae H. Ku, the director of the US-Korea Institute at Johns Hopkins University and the senior director Troy Stangarone participated in the seminar and presented the diagnosis and solutions for the North Korean nuclear issue as well as bilateral trade issues.

     

    At the seminar, Chairman Kim Young-joo emphasized, "The United States is the biggest ally not only in a diplomatic security, but also in the economy." He also added This seminar is a good opportunity to get a glimpse of Washington's views on security and economic issues, the two axes of the US-Korea relations.
