    KITA Runs Korea Desk for Korean Startups in Dubai

     

    - Signed MOU with the Dubai Future Foundation speeding up Korean startups expansion into the Middle East -

     

    The Korea International Trade Association (Chairman, Kim young-joo) signed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the operation of Korea Desk, which is set to help Korean startups make inroads into the Middle East, with the Dubai Future Foundation (DFF) at Madinat Jumeirah in Dubai on February 11th.  

     

    The signing ceremony was held during The 7th World Government Summit (WGS 2019),and more than 100 participants, including Kim Ki-hyun, head of UAE Branch of the Korea International Trade Association, Khalfan Belhoul, CEO of the Dubai Future Foundation, major figures from the UAE government and interagency officials attended the event. 

     

    Upon this MOU, the Korea International Trade Association is planning to open Korea Desk at the DFF office located in Emirates Tower in Dubai and carry out various supporting projects for Korea startups such as to provide co-working space, to offer matching service between Dubai startups and the government, to hold investor relations (IR) within the foundation, and to observe and participate in the foundations startup programs.

     

    DFF oversees 11 technology innovation programs, including Dubai Future Accelerator (DFA) and Dubai 10X and that are also well-known in Korea. The foundation is now expanding national desks in order to support the promising startups all over the world to make inroads into the Middle East. Currently, the desks for four countries such as Korea, New Zealand, Estonia, and Latvia have been confirmed and the desk for France is under discussion.

     

    Ki-Hyun Kim, head of KITAs UAE Branch said, In order to be prepared for the post-oil era, the Middle East countries are very focused on attracting prospective startups to their regions. He stressed, In particular, Dubai is a good opportunity for Korean startups as the local organizations are enthusiastically pushing forward the projects with full support and attention from the Crown Prince.
