The Korea International Trade Association (Chairman:
Kim Young-joo) announced that it had ran the “2020 Trade Expert Training
Program for Officers of ASEAN Countries” in cooperation with the Korea
International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) for four days from October 12th.
It was the first contact free online course conducted
for the Trade Academy's foreign public official training program. Seven
officials in the fields of economy, trade, and agriculture and forestry from
Malaysia and the Philippines participated in the training program and had the
completion ceremony the 15th.
Until last year, the Korea International Trade
Association operated a trade expert training program at COEX in Samseong-dong
for public officials from eight ASEAN countries, South Africa, and China
outsourced by the government agencies such as KOICA, Korea Foundation, and the
Ministry of Industry and Trade of Vietnam. This year, the training program was
conducted online due to the spread of COVID-19.
The Trade Expert Training Program for Officers of
ASEAN Countries aims to expand the pool of ASEAN opinion leaders who are
favorable to Korea by sharing Korea's experience in trade and economic
development, utilization of the Free Trade Agreement (FTA), and measures for
public-private cooperation in the fields of startups and e-commerce.
Kim Byung-hoon, an executive secretary at the World
Trade Academy, said, “The ASEAN officials who have completed this training
course will become allies of Korea in their respective positions,” and added,
“In the future, We will continue to expand online training courses for overseas
