The Korea International Trade Association (Chairman: Kim Young-joo) announced that it had ran the “2020 Trade Expert Training Program for Officers of ASEAN Countries” in cooperation with the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) for four days from October 12th.

It was the first contact free online course conducted for the Trade Academy's foreign public official training program. Seven officials in the fields of economy, trade, and agriculture and forestry from Malaysia and the Philippines participated in the training program and had the completion ceremony the 15th.

Until last year, the Korea International Trade Association operated a trade expert training program at COEX in Samseong-dong for public officials from eight ASEAN countries, South Africa, and China outsourced by the government agencies such as KOICA, Korea Foundation, and the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Vietnam. This year, the training program was conducted online due to the spread of COVID-19.

The Trade Expert Training Program for Officers of ASEAN Countries aims to expand the pool of ASEAN opinion leaders who are favorable to Korea by sharing Korea's experience in trade and economic development, utilization of the Free Trade Agreement (FTA), and measures for public-private cooperation in the fields of startups and e-commerce.

Kim Byung-hoon, an executive secretary at the World Trade Academy, said, “The ASEAN officials who have completed this training course will become allies of Korea in their respective positions,” and added, “In the future, We will continue to expand online training courses for overseas public officials.”
