KITA Chairman Christopher Koo held a business luncheon with Kansai Keizai Doyukai, known as Kansai Association of Corporate Executives, on May 9 in Osaka, Japan. During this meeting, Korea and Japan discussed ways to enhance bilateral private-sector economic cooperation.
Both leaders agreed to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in the upcoming August when Kansai Keizai Doyukai visits Korea in an effort to expand exchanges between the two organizations.
The March Korea-Japan summit has accelerated the growth of economic opportunities, marking a historic milestone in their relations. KITA has a special connection with the Kansai region, having established its first overseas branch in Osaka in 1948. As the Kansai region serves as a hub for secondary battery industries including lithium-ion, there would be vast potentials for both countries to strengthen supply chain cooperation. |

On May 15, KITA Chairman met with Korea Society Board Chair Ambassador Kathleen Stephens and President Thomas J. Byrne to further solidify bilateral economic relationship. In particular, both sides noted that during state visit, President Yoon's English speech at the Congress and his singing of "American Pie"left a profound impression on the American people. To build on this crucial momentum, Korea and the U.S. will strive to increase their scope of cooperation to include diverse aspects.
This year is more special as KITA Chairman Christopher Koo and Georgia Department of Economic Development are selected as recipients of the Van Fleet Award for this year, which recognizes outstanding contribution to improving the Korea-U.S. relations.
With many Korean companies doing business or investing in the U.S., the American business landscape is also being reshaped, especially with a strong presence in Georgia. Both Korea and the U.S. agreed to make great efforts to create a business-friendly environment on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the ROK-U.S. alliance.

On May 19, H.E. Indian Ambassador Amit Kumar paid a visit to KITA to have a meeting with KITA Chairman. This is his first appointment as an Ambassador, adding further meanings to his posting in Korea.
This year holds special significance as it marks the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and Korea. We hope that at this critical juncture, Ambassador Kumar's appointment in Korea will contribute to enhancing economic cooperation between the two nations.
India and Korea are the 6th and 10th largest economies in the world, respectively. India, in particular, is emerging as a manufacturing and IT powerhouse, leveraging its excellent IT workforce and self-reliant policies.
Furthermore, India will host the G20 Summit in New Delhi in September 2023. Under the theme of "One Earth, One Family, One Future", this first-ever G20 Summit held in India is expected to serve as a catalyst to bring together G20 member countries as well as nations worldwide. |

On May 25, KITA co-hosted <2023 Korea-Africa Business Summit> and dinner banquet with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Korea-Africa Foundation.
Driven by rapid industrialization, Africa boasts the world’s fastest growing economies and is considered a crucial global hub in supply chains thanks to its abundant natural resources as well as rare critical minerals.
Last year, Korea-Africa trade volume increased by nearly four times compared to 2000 and many prominent Korean companies already entered African market with significant success.
In this regard, <2024 Korea-Africa Special Summit>, which invites leaders of 54 African countries, is expected to be a turning point for fully matured Korea-Africa relations. |
