KITA (Chairman: Jin Sik Yoon) and the Japanese Association of Corporate Executives co-hosted the fourth Korea - Japan Economic Roundtable on Friday, 24 October at KITA HQs in Seoul.
Korea - Japan Economic Roundtable is an official channel co-established by the the Association of Corporate Executives of Japan and the Special committee on Korea - Japan bilateral exchanges, which was kicked off by KITA in February last year. The Roundtable aims to strengthen networking and encourage private-level cooperation among businesspeople from Korea and Japan. Ever since the first Roundtable was held in May last year, the Roundtable is being held twice a year in Tokyo and Seoul by taking turns.
The fourth Roundtable was attended by 42 business representatives from Korea and Japan, including Hyoseong Group Chairman Hyeon-joon Cho, who also serves as the Chairman of the Special committee on Korea - Japan bilateral exchanges and the Korean Committee Head of the Japanese Association of Corporate Executives Mr Kenichi Tamatsuka, who also serves as the CEO of Lotte Holdings Japan. One notable element of this Roundtable is the attendance of ten newly appointed senior executives, who joined the AI subcommittee of the Special committee on Korea - Japan bilateral exchanges, thereby providing a chance for in-depth discussions in AI technology cooperation.
Chairman Cho stressed in his opening remarks, "As China and the U.S. are dominating the AI market through massive investment, Korea and Japan should couple its own strengths and act together to discover opportunities in the global AI market. He added, "A new opportunity can be discovered by coupling Korea's excellent AI platform services and Japan's database in the healthcare sector, which will allow efficient response to ageing and become leaders in relevant sectors".
Committee Head Mr Kenichi Tamatsuka replied, "As Japan and Korea are facing a transistional period in terms of politics and economy, it is now high time to draw a new vision for a futuristic cooperation".
